Sara’s dedication and enthusiasm for yoga creates a class experience where students can foster the best in themselves and cultivate awareness for living on a profound level.
Known for her attention to detail, challenging practices and poetic integration of yoga philosophy, Sara provides students with a rich experience and potent opportunities for growth physically and mentally. There is always direction to the movement in class; be it a pinnacle pose, working a key action, or contemplating a specific theme.
“When I teach publically I love to weave a metaphor into our practice. Alignment is a guide I use to teach students about themselves physically and spiritually. It’s my aim to get people into their bodies by asana under the context of an aspect of the yoga tradition that isn’t usually studied in a drop-in 90 minute class. Come to class if you want to learn, move, breathe and figure out how you, under your own power, can be a great person contributing to a glorious existence on this planet.”Sara Strother
Sara began her regular practice of hatha yoga and meditation when she was 18 years old and just beginning college. Recognized in Chicago as an accomplished yoga teacher, Sara’s resume also includes teaching yoga in Japan for 2 years, online yoga classes, international retreats and has assisted master teacher trainings and immersions. Prior to any certifications Sara began teaching in January of 2003 at the Yellow Moon Cafe in Cobden, IL to eager students and local longtime practitioners that created a space for her to teach in. In 2004 she was certified by the White Lotus Foundation of Santa Barbara, CA and in 2009 was initiated as an Anusara Yoga teacher.
Always a student, Sara annually studies with her teachers Noah Maze and Darren Rhodes. Since 1999 Sara has been studying classical yoga philosophy and took up interest in Tantra in 2006. Sara receives her yoga dharshana from Christopher Hareesh Wallis, Christopher Tompkins and Douglas R. Brooks.
Throughout the year Sara works to evolve her teaching strategies in workshops, retreats, intensives and leading level 1 and advanced teacher trainings. In 2016 she was the guest key note speaker at the Radish Yoga Fest in Rock Island, IL. She formulates content for these events as if she was a curious student attending. Thorough investigations are plotted out in these courses and, in general, are accessible to a mixed level of students and teachers.
Sara is blessed to share life with her husband Todd, and daughters Celeste and Autumn. She loves to cook, hike, read and craft.
