Join Claire Mark and Sara Strother for this 8 part Continuing Ed series to tune up your sequence skills, learn to adjust students with emphasis on alignment and safety, take your prop and asana skills up a notch and weave themes to give your classes more meaning.
Claire and Sara feel continuing education is valuable not only to student populations but for the empowerment of the teacher. The aim of this program is to meet teachers of all levels where they’re at and impart guidance to enhance what is already working. With step by step instruction and approachable applications, this immersion into the seat of the teacher is sure to revitalize and fortify your career.
Together, these teachers bring 35 years of teaching experience to enthusiastically share and a gift for elevating classrooms around the globe. Pop in for one session or save on pre-registering for all 8.
Week 1- THEME WEAVER
Stuck in a teaching rut where sometimes class just feels like exercise? Learn the keys to integrating an intention throughout a yoga class without getting caught up in your words. Sara is known for her theming and integration of yoga philosophy throughout teaching an asana class. Come learn her method behind creating and implementing a succinct class with theme integration.
Week 2- SEQUENCE TUNE UP
In this 2.5 hour class you’ll learn a little kinesiology and anatomy for troubleshooting on the fly. You’ll pick up the basics of safely setting up a flow that addresses repetitive stress now common in the classroom. Lastly, your teaching will be invigorated by tapping into your creative process within a supportive environment.
Week 3- WORKING WITH BEGINNERS
Hone in on your skills to help new students grow to love yoga as you do. It’s not easy teaching intro students, beginners and level 1 students. Let us show you how to be the most efficacious and exigent in your class to not only make a greater impact on your student body but bring more ease into your teaching.
Week 4- TEACHING PEAK POSTURES AND PEAK SEQUENCES
Learn to create a class plan strategy to help your students excel at pinnacle poses that are too challenging to simply sprinkle into any class. This session will also deconstruct another angle of sequencing called “peak sequences” where the aim is not to execute one single posture but a fluid flow of postures strung together. Come with you notebooks, thinking caps and copy of Light On Yoga by BKS Iyengar.
Week 5 – ADJUST YOUR ADJUSTMENTS I
Adjustments are complex and from time to time need their own tune ups. In this class we’ll talk about how to use touch to deepen a students physical practice. We’ll focus on basic foundational poses and practice working on each other to get comfortable with many different types of adjustments. There is no pose that can’t be enhanced by a skillful adjustment. Come to unlock what’s right before you in your students in a safe and supportive environment.
Week 6 – ADJUST YOUR ADJUSTMENTS II
This will be a continuation of the work done in session 1 with the emphasis on understanding how to adjust more difficult postures.
Week 7- ADVANCED PROP SKILLS
For students and teachers alike, this afternoon session will dramatically showcase the power of using props effectively to advance your practice and calm your nervous system. You will learn how to implement this technology without getting tangled up in the process. This will not be a full practice but rather a workshop with opportunities to ask questions and investigate.
Week 8- TEACHING ADVANCED ASANA
Although your personal practice may hold record of the time, effort and commitment you’ve given to yoga, how do you safely and effectively guide a student to a higher degree of execution? Our final session explores what makes a practice advanced and how you can confidently explore advanced asana with your students and private clients.
